POWDER PAINT

The Powder Painting process (or Electrostatic Painting) consists of the electrostatic application of thermosetting or thermoplastic paint that is presented in the form of small particles. After the application of an electric field, the paint remains electrostatically adhered to the metal surface. Once polymerized, it acquires excellent physical and chemical properties. The Powder coating provides an excellent finish with the best resistance to corrosion and degradation by ultraviolet light.

ADVANTAGE

  • Among its advantages is giving personalized finishes within a wide range of materials, textures and colors, being considered especially recommended for extreme environments of temperature, humidity and ultraviolet light.

  • Also note that this type of coating can be applied to various types of materials, such as steel, aluminum and galvanized metals.

  • There are different Types of Paints (epoxy, epoxy-polyester or polyester), of Textures (smooth, embossed, textured or metallic), both factors accompanied by a wide range of available colors.

  • Before applying the paint, the pieces go through a surface preparation process that consists of degreasing, phosphating and different washes.

  • After the application of the paint, the piece is subjected to temperature to achieve its polymerization.

  • The composition of the Powder Paint completely conditions the qualities of the coating, so it is critical to know the characteristics of the product before using it for any application. This type of paints are composed of resins, pigments and minerals, as well as hardening agents, additives and fillers, elements that, together, will give the pieces the characteristics of color, resistance, flexibility and type of finish since it does not contain solvents , Powder Paint is used in different industrial and decorative painting processes, in sectors as diverse as commercial, industrial, hospital, household appliances, automotive, etc.

PROCESS

  • The application of powder paint takes place inside a pressurized booth, being a totally dry process, in which air is used to transport the paint from the storage tanks to the metal surface and an electric field to electrostatically adhere the paint. paint to the surface.

  • After application, it is subjected to a curing or polymerization process in an oven, in which the pigments melt and react to form a uniform and durable film.

  • Pretreatments:
Cleans, degreases and prepares the surface.

  • Pre-drying:
It removes moisture from the piece to avoid caking of the paint when applied.

  • Paint booth
Paint particles are applied by guns in an automatic or manual process depending on the geometry of the piece. Said particles remain attached to the piece thanks to an electrostatic effect. The applied paint layer can be between 60 and 200 microns.

  • Kiln:
For more than 20 minutes at a temperature higher than 180ºC, the paint layer applied on the pieces polymerizes and cures.
